Branch Comparison
Learn how to compare branch performance
Why Compare Branches?
If you operate multiple restaurant locations, comparing their performance helps you understand what is working, identify opportunities for improvement, and allocate resources effectively.
Branch comparison answers questions like:
- Which branch has the most customer engagement?
- Where is revenue growing fastest?
- Which location has the best order conversion rate?
- Are there branches that need more attention or support?
Accessing Branch Comparison
To compare branches:
- Navigate to Analytics in the left sidebar
- Look for the branch comparison view or filters
- Select the branches you want to compare
- Choose the metrics and time period for comparison
Metrics You Can Compare
QR Scan Comparison
Compare how many QR scans each branch receives:
- Total scans per branch - Which locations see the most customer engagement
- Scan growth rate - Which branches are gaining momentum
- Scans per table - Normalized comparison accounting for branch size
What different scan levels tell you:
- A branch with significantly fewer scans may have visibility issues with its QR codes
- A branch with growing scans is attracting more digital menu users
- Consistent scans across branches indicate even QR code adoption
Order Comparison
Compare order activity between branches:
- Total orders - Volume of orders at each location
- Average order value - How much customers spend per order
- Order conversion rate - Percentage of scans that lead to orders
Using order comparisons:
- A branch with high scans but low orders may have a menu that needs improvement
- A branch with high average order value might have better menu design to learn from
- Consistent ordering patterns suggest good standardization across locations
Revenue Comparison
Compare financial performance across branches:
- Total revenue - Which branches generate the most income
- Revenue per scan - Efficiency of converting engagement to revenue
- Revenue trends - Growth or decline at each location
Revenue insights:
- Your highest-revenue branch can serve as a model for others
- Branches with declining revenue need investigation and action
- Revenue per scan helps normalize for different traffic volumes
Identifying Your Best Performing Branch
To determine your top-performing branch, look at multiple metrics together:
Step 1: Rank by QR Scans
Start with engagement. Which branches attract the most digital menu users?
Step 2: Rank by Order Conversion
Among the branches with good scan numbers, which ones convert browsers into customers?
Step 3: Rank by Revenue
Which branches generate the most revenue overall and per order?
Step 4: Consider Context
Factor in external context:
- Branch size and seating capacity
- Location and foot traffic
- Time since opening (newer branches may still be growing)
- Local competition and market conditions
The best-performing branch is not always the one with the highest single metric. Look at the overall picture across all metrics.
Comparison Charts
The analytics dashboard provides visual charts for branch comparison:
Side-by-Side Bar Charts
See metric values for each branch displayed as bars next to each other. This makes it easy to visually compare magnitudes.
Trend Line Comparisons
View trend lines for multiple branches on the same chart. This shows how branches perform relative to each other over time.
Performance Tables
Tabular views with all branches listed alongside their key metrics. Sortable by any column for quick ranking.
Acting on Comparison Data
Replicate Success
When one branch significantly outperforms others:
- Analyze what makes it different
- Is the menu better organized?
- Are QR codes more visible?
- Is the staff more engaged with the digital system?
- Apply successful practices to underperforming branches
Investigate Underperformance
When a branch is lagging behind:
- Visit the physical location to check QR code placement and condition
- Review the branch's menu for gaps or issues
- Check if features like KDS and Order Management are enabled and used
- Speak with branch staff about any challenges
- Create an improvement plan with specific targets
Balance Resources
Use comparison data to allocate resources:
- Direct marketing efforts toward branches with growth potential
- Invest in improvements at underperforming locations
- Share staff training from high-performing branches
- Adjust inventory based on per-branch order patterns
Comparison Best Practices
Compare Fairly
Not all branches are equal in terms of size, location, and market:
- Normalize metrics by capacity or seating when possible
- Account for differences in operating hours
- Consider local market conditions and demographics
- Factor in how long each branch has been operating
Track Over Time
A single snapshot is less useful than a trend:
- Compare branches month over month to see trajectories
- A branch that is improving rapidly might surpass others soon
- A branch with stable but modest performance may just need a boost
Set Branch Goals
Use comparison data to set specific, measurable goals:
- "Increase QR scans at Branch B by 20% this month"
- "Match Branch A's average order value at all locations by Q2"
- "Achieve 90% order completion rate across all branches"
Goals based on data are more motivating and actionable than arbitrary targets.
Multi-Branch Management Tips
Regular Branch Reviews
Schedule monthly or quarterly branch review meetings:
- Review comparison charts and rankings
- Discuss what is working and what is not
- Share best practices from top performers
- Set action items for improvement
Standardization vs. Customization
Balance consistency and flexibility:
- Standardize successful menu structures and features
- Allow branches to customize based on local preferences
- Share learnings but respect local market differences
Use Data for Decisions
Let analytics guide your business decisions:
- Where to open new branches (near high-performing areas)
- Which menu items to promote (top sellers at best branches)
- When to run promotions (based on traffic patterns)
- How to staff shifts (based on order volume data)
