Creating and Downloading QR Codes
Learn how to create and download your QR codes
Automatic QR Code Generation
When you create a branch in Qrder, a unique QR code is automatically generated for it. There is no separate step to create the QR code - it is ready as soon as your branch exists.
This QR code links directly to your branch's digital menu. When customers scan it, they are taken straight to your menu page with all categories, products, photos, and allergen information.
Accessing Your QR Code
Step 1: Navigate to the QR Page
- Go to Branches in the left sidebar
- Select the branch you want
- Click the QR Codes tab in the branch navigation
Step 2: View Your QR Code
On the QR page, you will see:
- Your branch's QR code displayed prominently
- A preview of the URL the QR code links to
- Download and sharing options
Downloading Your QR Code
Download as PNG
- On the QR Codes page, locate the Download button
- Click it to download the QR code as a PNG image file
- The file will be saved to your device's default download location
- The downloaded image is high-resolution and print-ready
The PNG format works well for both digital sharing and printing. It maintains quality at various sizes.
Recommended Print Sizes
When printing your QR code, use the following guidelines:
- Table tent or table sticker: 5cm x 5cm (2 inches)
- A5 table card: 8cm x 8cm (3 inches)
- Wall poster or signage: 15cm x 15cm (6 inches) or larger
- Minimum size: 3cm x 3cm (1.2 inches) - do not go smaller than this
Copying the Menu Link
In addition to the QR code image, you can also copy the direct URL to your menu:
- On the QR Codes page, find the Copy Link button
- Click it to copy the menu URL to your clipboard
- You can now paste this link anywhere - emails, social media, messages, or your website
The copy link feature is useful for sharing your menu digitally through social media, email newsletters, or messaging apps. Not all customers need to scan a QR code - some may prefer clicking a link.
Printing QR Codes for Tables
Once you have downloaded your QR code, here are practical tips for printing and placing them:
What You Need
- A printer (color or black and white both work)
- Card stock, sticker paper, or regular paper for lamination
- Laminating sheets or clear tape for durability (optional but recommended)
Printing Steps
- Open the downloaded PNG file on your computer
- Insert it into a document or card template
- Resize to your desired dimensions
- Add your restaurant name or logo above or below the QR code if desired
- Add a brief scanning instruction: "Scan to view our menu"
- Print on your chosen material
Making QR Codes Durable
Restaurant environments involve spills, cleaning, and wear. To make your QR codes last:
- Laminate - Enclose the printed QR in a laminating pouch
- Use acrylic stands - Place QR code cards in clear acrylic table stands
- Sticker approach - Print on weather-resistant sticker material and adhere to tables
- Embed in table surface - Some restaurants embed QR codes under glass table surfaces
Replace damaged or worn QR codes promptly. A QR code that cannot be scanned creates a frustrating experience for customers.
Testing Your QR Code
Before placing QR codes on tables, always test them:
How to Test
- Open the camera app on your smartphone
- Point it at the QR code on your screen or printed copy
- Wait for the QR code recognition to appear
- Tap the notification to open the link
- Verify that it opens your correct branch menu
- Browse the menu to make sure everything looks right
What to Check
- Does the QR code scan quickly and reliably?
- Does it open the correct branch menu?
- Are all categories and products visible?
- Do images load properly?
- Is the menu readable on mobile?
- Does it work with different phones (iOS and Android)?
Sharing Your QR Code Digitally
Beyond printing, you can use your QR code or menu link in digital channels:
Social Media
- Share the QR code image on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter
- Include the direct link in your bio or posts
- Add the QR code to your social media stories
Website
- Embed the QR code or a "View Menu" link on your restaurant website
- Add it to your Google Business Profile
Messaging
- Send the QR code image or link via WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS
- Include it in email newsletters to regular customers
Food Delivery Platforms
- Include a note about your digital menu in delivery platform descriptions
- Share the link for customers who want to see the full menu
Troubleshooting
QR Code Not Scanning
If customers report that the QR code is not working:
- Check that the printed QR code is not damaged or obscured
- Ensure adequate lighting in the scanning area
- Verify the QR code is not too small (minimum 3cm x 3cm)
- Test with different phones to rule out device-specific issues
- Make sure the URL is still active and your menu is published
Menu Not Loading After Scan
If the QR code scans but the menu does not load:
- Check your internet connection
- Verify that the branch is active and has menu items
- Try accessing the menu link directly in a browser
- Contact support if the issue persists
